Spring is nearly here and if you’re like me, you’re hoping it better stop fucking teasing and just put out. As I look out my office window and see a slushy snow all over the ground, I just sit and reminisce of the sunny days that once were. They’re coming soon. And with them will come new fashion trends. Wanna get ahead of the game? Take notes:
Colored Desert Boots: Clarks, Opening Ceremony, and Cole Haan are the way to go!
Colored Pants/Shorts: I just recently referred some pants to a friend and hope he makes a good choice, but the way to go with pants today is to find a solid straight leg/slim cut. Whether it is a denim or khaki you are looking for. Straight leg and slim are mandatory! As for the shorts, keep them above the knee this year boys. I love J Brand and J Crew while more moderate priced pants can be found at Gap, Express, American Eagle and Tony Walker Men’s Shop.
Vests: Vineyard Vines and Victorinox make great, lightweight vests that are appropriate for the cooler spring days and maintain the windbreaker material. Stay in style and bring some color with each vest. Polo and J Crew bring some nice tweed vests for the spring (and fall) seasons.
Ties: Brighten up your tie selection with some of Ralph Lauren and J Crew’s best ones yet:
Over time, I have come to discover that I love to cook. I like mixing and matching all sorts of ingredients, cheeses, spices and more to develop some sort of new concoction. I also have noticed, the lady likes it too.
Cooking can be sexy. Nothing like surprising your woman (or girls to cook for men) with some delicious new recipe you made up (but actually you googled). Cooking is fun and it’s a new experience for everyone to get into. So today’s tip of the day: Cook more often.
You know who you are. If you’ve got beef with your immediate family, you’ve got to be the strong one, the bigger man/woman, the brave one… Holding on to grudges with any family member is not how things are meant to be. I can’t tell you how many people have told me their siblings haven’t spoken in twelve years, or their dad is an asshole so they haven’t communicated with them since they were a child, or any other sad story. I have sympathy, I do. And I am not Doctor Phil, so I apologize for stepping into some unwanted territory… But you know that feeling when you just performed a spontaneous, well-timed, good deed. Whether it is for a complete stranger or your best friend. That feeling of self-satisfaction is pretty hard to explain and even harder to replicate.
I think that if you have any struggles with your crew life (family) and you find the courage to reach out and just say, “Hey. This is stupid. How are you?” you’ll at least have the relief that you broke the ice/made the effort/took the step to make sure that your family is not your enemy. Make amends when you can, it’s a great feeling. The ability to forgive is an admirable trait.
So not only did the women bring it, but so did the men. As I always preach, the midnight blue tuxedo made several appearances, all equally as seductive. Midnight blue is in, it’s hot, and it looks damn good! Also, recognize the precise tailoring job that each man has on their tux. They all have a slim-fitting look and seem to fit perfectly.
Here are some of the night’s best dressed men:
Daniel Day-Lewis: Midnight blue
Eddie Redmayne: Slim slim slim
Daniel Radcliffe and Joseph Gordon-Levitt:
The Cloon Man sporting a beard:
Jeremy Renner with the sleek/skinny bow tie:
Rober De Niro: Proving that midnight blue is for all ages… Not so sure about the hair though.
Did you watch the Oscars on Sunday? Per usual there were some of the most stunning outfits via men and women. The movie awards are always something that interest me. I like to consider myself a modern day film buff and am attempting to learn the business a bit more. So let’s get into it…
First off, my congrats to Seth MacFarlane, who I thought did a great job hosting the most prestigious movie award show. He was funny, witty, well-dressed, spoke very well and kept me entertained the entire time. The show is overly long, but when he got on camera he let us know that he also thought the show was overly-long, cracking jokes about the show and the actors attending it. Well done, Seth.
The Best Dressed:
Jessica Chastain: Wearing Armani Prive
Samantha Barks: Wearig Valentino
Helen Hunt: Wearing a simple H&M
Jennifer Lawrence: Christian Dior Couture
Wildcard: Zoe Saldana- A gown should be simpler, but still, this wasn’t bad:
Many more of the women and gowns were great, but we can’t post all of them.
We’re all guilty of opening a bag of chips or cookies to enjoy while watching some television and the next thing you know the whole bag is gone, or almost gone. Don’t even try to pretend you haven’t done this. And if you haven’t, well you haven’t lived. One way to control this is to break down large bags into smaller portions. For example, take a bag of pretzels and ration the entire bag into Ziploc bags, each bag containing one serving size. Portion control is the name of the game when it comes to a healthy diet and weight loss.
Ever feel bloated, want to lose some water weight? Want to shed a few pounds fast? Here are a few safe, healthy ways to do just that.
1. Clean up your diet:
– Avoid foods high in salt and/or sodium- These two cause your body to retain those water fluids. Be sure to check labels and as a general rule of thumb, just avoid processed and frozen foods.
– Sugar – Sugar increases insulin levels, which decreases the body’s ability to excrete sodium—aka, salt. A good place to start is with all of those high sugar drinks, including soda and diet soda.
– Add natural diuretics – Look to add foods that are high in potassium, fiber, and magnesium.
2. Drink water, lot’s of it – But isn’t this what we’re trying to get rid of? Yes, but the more water you drink the less your body retains. It also helps to flush out your system. Aim to drink atleast 12 glasses of water per day. Oh, and make sure you’re near a bathroom.
3. Sweat it out! – Exercise helps you lose water weight by draining excess fluids by sweating them out. Utilize a sauna or steam room to really work up a good sweat after you’ve hit the gym hard.
4. No more booze -If you really want to lose that water weight cut out the alcohol intake. It leads to dehydration, which results in water retention. In addition, alcohol sometimes makes you eat a few late night snacks you will regret the next day.
